Here's what's happening in ACBL Region 1
By Darlene Scott, ACBL Region 1 Representative

What is ACBL Region 1?
Region 1, is a diverse and dynamic region encompassing ACBL Districts 1 and 2. And, I am honoured to serve as the ACBL Board of Director for this expansive and incredible region. Region 1 includes the Canadian provinces of Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as Bermuda. I’m proud to represent approximately 10,900 members who are passionate about the game of bridge and dedicated to its continued growth and success. As the elected representative for Region 1 on the ACBL Board of Directors, I am committed to advocating for the interests of our members and ensuring our region has a strong voice at the national level. I am focused on supporting initiatives that promote education, accessibility, sustainability, and innovation in bridge, while preserving the competitive spirit and community connection that make our game so special. A bit about my bridge journey: I joined the ACBL in 2011 and have been deeply involved in the bridge community ever since. I won the Mini McKenny races 2 years in a row, earned the rank of Life Master in 2014, and am currently a Ruby Life Master. For the past 12 years, I have proudly served as the Manager of the Oakville Bridge Club, outside of Toronto, where I’ve helped foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for players of all levels. My volunteer service includes: Unit 166 Board Member for 9 years, serving as Vice-President for 7 years District 2 Board Member for 5 years Tournament Chair for 13 Regional tournaments, 11 Sectionals, and the 2024 Toronto NABC at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre. Member of the ACBL Board of Directors since January 1, 2025 Professionally: I had a fulfilling 36-year career with the Canada Border Services Agency, retiring in 2025, and also worked 13 years with Scotiabank. I am the owner of Classic Odysseys Inc., an event organizing business that combines my love of travel and planning with a passion for creating memorable experiences — including bridge-themed events and cruises. Beyond bridge: I enjoy travelling, cooking and entertaining, fine and fun dining with friends, gardening, reading, and organizing events. I’m also an avid fan of Wordle, backgammon, and most of all, I cherish time spent with my 5 lb. Yorkshire Terrier, Sofie. Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the game, my goal is to ensure that Region 1 continues to thrive as a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking part of the ACBL. I look forward to working with all of you — to listen, to lead, and to help shape the future of bridge together. I hope to meet many of you at the bridge table during my travels on the tournament circuit. — Darlene Scott
